Putting customers first in a strategic partnership – IBM and VMware

To quote the famous poet John Donne “no man is an island”, the same could be said for technology companies.  The demands of the digital era are too vast, and customers’ requirements too varied, for any one vendor to be able to meet all those needs alone.

That’s why it’s vital we work with like-minded businesses that provide the choice and capabilities our customers need. As Andy Brierly, Vice President of Cloud Application Modernisation at IBM puts it when it comes to cloud, the goal has to be to “provide customers [with] the right cloud solution for their workload requirements.”

This is why we value our partners immensely – whether it’s a regional solution or service or a global giant like IBM. We would not be able to give our customers the widest possible choice of solutions without them. IBM is one of those partners, a company that we’ve had a strategic relationship with since VMware itself was in its inception. Our agreement sees us integrate our respective cloud and management solutions, allowing us, in Andy’s words, to “choose the right outcomes for our clients.”

The reason we work so well together is because we have a shared vision of how vendors and their partners can support customers. At the heart of this is our joint commitment to hybrid and multi-cloud. As Andy explained, this will “allow companies to securely move, integrate and manage data, applications and services across and beyond the enterprise seamlessly.” In other words, give our customers the foundation they need to succeed.

Andy was being interviewed by Digital Innovation EU, in a wide-ranging feature which covered the benefits of cloud migration, the current state of many organisations’ approach to the technology, and how partners like VMware are helping IBM to enable customers to successful transform their operations. In it, Andy put forward his thoughts on how “businesses can create a more secure, more reliable, more robust, more resilient environment with cloud than using their own data centres.”

But what does that actually look like? This video illustrates exactly the impact VMware and IBM are having in enterprises.

If you want to hear more about the work VMware and IBM does together, we have 15 related sessions at VMworld 2019 Europe, with speakers from both companies taking you through everything from IBM Cloud for VMware to how VMware is using IBM Watson, its artificial intelligence system. You can also find the IBM stand in the main exhibition hall – number D403.
