Digital transformation is all about creating new possibilities for business, and it is the rapid and agile development of applications that is making this possible. Business and IT leaders agree that data center and cloud transformation yield big benefits, providing greater business agility and responsiveness to change; greater cost efficiencies, and faster time to innovation for new applications.

It is our partners who truly make this happen.  And, at times offer more than technological innovation –actual regional economic growth.

One such instance came in October, when our partner Aruba inaugurated the largest data center in Italy – and one of the largest in Europe. The Ponte San Pietro Global Cloud Data Center is an ambitious project. It’s a best of breed example of Italy’s growing technological infrastructure and comes as a result of a series of investments and Italian know-how. With the new data center, customers across the country will be able to realize the full benefits of the cloud, driving greater business efficiencies by creating unlimited performance, scalability and services architectures.

But the new data center is important in a far broader sense; it is true impetus for the entire country, where IT is becoming the engine of innovation, helping businesses to thrive and grow. Technological infrastructures like the Ponte San Pietro Global Data Center are, for this reason, crucial to stimulating economic and cultural growth, playing an intrinsic role in boosting their countries’ economies and helping to recover competitiveness.

We’re very proud to partner with projects like these, knowing our own solutions are contributing to something big. We’ve been working with Aruba for a very long time – 12 years. First starting out helping companies deploy our server virtualization technologies, our relationship together has evolved considerably, with Aruba joining us on our path to the software-defined data center, not only building on our server-side technology offering, but also bringing network virtualization and advanced automation solutions into the mix, giving companies simple, efficient, and cost-effective data center management.

“We have been collaborating with VMware over the years. This collaboration adds a common mission to trust and complete reliability: innovate and offer more and more technologically advanced solutions to stay alongside our customers. We have built the Global Cloud Data Center to represent the ultimate excellence in innovation, which is why VMware’s technologies are so crucial for it,” added Stefano Cecconi, Country Manager at Aruba, when we asked him about the importance of our collaboration.

The expectations around the new global cloud data center are very high: we are confident that it will give great impetus to cloud development and will be a hub of innovation, a network for the management of web and cloud infrastructure in Italy. We will continue to collaborate with Aruba and provide our best technologies at a time when the country’s buoyancy is increasingly linked to cloud services, which, according to the Cloud & ICT Observatory of the School of Management of Milan Politecnico, will grow by 24% across Italy in 2017.

The fact that a provider like Aruba uses VMware technology is an opportunity for a real hybrid, agile and dynamic cloud. Today, we have more than 4,300 Cloud VMware Cloud Provider Program partners working with us, many of whom are looking to accelerate innovation and launch new services faster, easier, and in a less costly fashion. They can combine network, cloud, mobility and IT architectures into a converged platform for network services and applications with unprecedented agility. The opening of The Ponte San Pietro Global Cloud Data Center really is regional best practice and we’re always looking to support other partners who want to help their countries in driving the same levels of innovation and growth.
