VMworld 2019 Europe; that’s a wrap! And what a week it’s been, bringing together CIOs, VMUGs, vBeards(!), vSoccer players, vExperts, Bear Grylls, the Stereophonics, and much more. The vCommunity really is something special!

Thanks to all who attended, presented, networked, competed and hosted sessions, joined panels, ran workshops, got certified, and to those who joined us online to watch the live streams, or to participate in the #VMworld conversation. The energy was high all week – and, despite it being the final day, today was no exception…

Thursday’s on-site highlights in Barcelona, included:

  • A Hyperconverged Infrastructure (HCI) customer panel where VMware’s Lee Dilworth – Chief Technologist for Storage and Availability in EMEA – led a selection of customers in a discussion on what they’d learnt from deploying HCI. It was great to hear use cases from technical experts and IT architects at Asda, Region Uppsala and Chr. Hansen A/B, as well as to understand their real-world experiences of the benefits, potential pitfalls and organisational changes required for deployment.
  • A Diversity and Inclusion panel discussing experiences of, and advice relating to, fostering a culture of inclusion where everyone can bring their authentic selves to work each day. The panel featured representatives from across VMware and partner and customer organisations, including: VMware’s Duncan Greenwood – VP & General Manager, NEMEA, Simran Arora – Solutions Engineer, James Hogan – Director, End User Computing, and Jeramie Sutton – Senior Sales Manager Healthcare, alongside Sarah Lucas – Head of Platforms and Infrastructure at William Hill Plc and Siri Hsam – Senior Manager Global Industry Analyst Relations at Atos.
  • The final of the VMware Hands-On Labs Odyssey competition in which the six top teams from throughout the week battled it out in a vRealize-based challenge, completing three tasks against the clock. Team ‘Meteors’ took first place – with a winning time of 10:36 – and won themselves a MacBook Pro each. There was also an Oculus VR Headset up for grabs for those taking a Lightning Lab today.
  • A record-breaking achievement by Abdelrahman Elmeky who became the youngest ever person to get a VCP-DCV certification. Many others also showed dedication and determination by completing self-paced exams right up to the end of the day.

We hope to see next year!
