Diversity is more than just a box ticking exercise – it’s at the core of what drives innovation at VMware. Those were some of Joe Baguley’s first thoughts in our latest episode of Carpool Tech Talk.

Joe discussed the importance of having a diverse workforce, from the value of having different employee experiences to the benefits that come with having one’s own mindset challenged. His guest for this drive was Andrew McLean, analyst and CTO at Compare the Cloud.

Expanding on diversity, Joe talked about how excited he was to see the IT sector embrace the advantages of diversity and inclusion, particularly as the industry comes up against the challenge of needing the right skills to enact digital transformation. He also highlighted Andrew’s own route into the industry; initially working in psychology, he then ran an IT company before becoming an analyst, a slightly different journey to the norm.

Together, they discussed the challenges behind digital transformation, with Andrew citing a statistic that said only 40% of companies had done or were in the process of transforming. So, what are the barriers, and what are businesses getting right?

In other words, in the rush to innovate, […]

Tackling app complexity in a multi-cloud world

When discussing the impact of technology on the organization, we’ve typically done so in terms of platforms and infrastructure:  on-premise, off-premise, cloud, data centers, networks, Edge. And you might measure value and effectiveness in terms of the value of cost optimization, agility, speed to market, security, compliance, control and choice. What this focus overlooks is what’s actually driving business decisions today – something that, until a few years ago, most people outside of the […]

Execution, not innovation is holding organisations back

A recent report we published, written by Cass Business School highlighted the challenge many of us face: that the inability to turn ideas into new products, services and strategies, at the pace required, is putting organisations at risk of failure. The report, entitled Innovating in the Exponential Economy, explores the gap between where ideas originate and how they […]
